Good afternoon,
Here’s this week’s Backpack Express for your reading pleasure:
- Kindergarten Registration: It’s never too late to register a child for kindergarten. We have moved to an online registration system. If you have a child who will be five years old as of September 1, 2022, your child is eligible for kindergarten. All of the information may be found here about registration.
- Progress Reports: With our second trimester ending, it is almost time for progress reports. Progress reports may be found in Aspen and they will be available on March 18, 2022. You will receive an email indicating when you may access them. Please remember, you need to know your Aspen username and password. If you do not have this information, email x2help@barringtonschools.org and the information will be sent to you. (We do not have this information at our school.) If you wait until the last minute, it may take a couple days to get a response.
- Coughs, Colds, and Other Childhood Illness: Covid is not the only illness going around. Children still do get coughs, colds, strep, stomach bugs, etc. Many of the traditional childhood illnesses look similar to Covid. At this point in time, if a child has symptoms that could possibly be Covid, even if they are symptomatic of other illnesses, your child will need a PCR Covid test prior to returning to school. If your child had Covid within the past 90 days, they will not need to be tested. If you are not sure what to do, you may reach out to Mrs. Flores (floresd@barringtonschools.org or 401.247.3180) with your questions. Information about school health policies related to other childhood illnesses may be found here.
- Survey Works: Sowams and the Rhode Island Department of Education value feedback, which is why RIDE has created a yearly survey for parents to provide feedback on our school. This parent survey, which is open through the end of this month, asks questions about school safety, school climate, family engagement, and family support. This anonymous survey may be found at bit.ly/ridefamily.
- Community Notices: There is one community notice from BYSA.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Best,
Jim Callahan
