From our School Nurse Teacher, Mrs. Flores
Mrs. Flores would like to update you on the illnesses that have been at Sowams. You may access this update here.
Extended Day
Registration for the PTO’s Extended Day begins at 7:00 tonight through PTOffice. The cost for each class is $60.00 and is paid for in PTOffice. (Please remember, the app for PTOffice is not working properly.) These after school programs meet on either Tuesdays or Thursdays beginning February 25 and 27. The class descriptions may be found here.
Upcoming Events
Kindergarten Registration: Registration is next week for those children who will be five years old as of September 1, 2020. Each day next week, you can come by the school to register your child from 9:00-2:00. Information on what’s needed may be found here. Please let your friends and neighbors know about kindergarten registration. Parents/Guardians would go to their neighborhood school (Sowams, Primrose Hill, or Nayatt) to register their child.
Pajama Program: Our third graders are spearheading a collection of books and pajamas for children in foster care and homeless shelters in Rhode Island. Books and pajamas may be sent in for children of all ages (birth to 18). There are boxes in our school’s foyer for the donated items. We are collecting until February 14.
Town Meeting: Our next Town Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11 at 1:40 in the afternoon. Mrs. Promades’ class is the Class of the Week.
100th Day of School: Celebrations in various classrooms will take place on Wednesday, February 12.
No School Days: There is no school on February 17 and 18. Please remember, there is no February vacation this year. Students do have school on February 19, 20, and 21.
Dental Screening: Dental Screens will be held Monday, March 16th. Mrs. Flores will be sending out a brief dental survey to each family to be completed for each student attending Sowams School. Please be on the lookout for this next week.
Other Bits of Information
Lost and Found: Don’t forget to check the lost and found in our school. Items not claimed will be donated to Tap In.
Morning Drop Off: In my eyes, morning drop off seems to be going smoothly. Most parents are letting their child(ren) out of the car where the sidewalks are, pulling up as far as they can, and following my directions. Thank you for doing these things. Please remember, parents should not be getting out the car to assist their children.
