Backpack Express

Good morning,

This week’s Backpack Express is filled with a lot of information so please make sure you read the whole thing.

  • Octoberfest:  Although a separate email will come out with Octoberfest information, there is still a big need for volunteers.  If every family volunteers for one hour, we will be able to cover all of the slots needed.  To sign up to volunteer, please go to this link.  Octoberfest is only successful with our families’ support.

  • PTO Enrichment Committee:  We are looking for a parent volunteer to co-chair with another parent in organizing and running the Enrichment Committee.  This committee is responsible for our Extended Day program that runs typically between February and April vacations.  You may reach out to the PTO with any questions at sowamspto@gmail.com.

  • Sowams PTO Family Night at RIFC:  Join your Sowams Family and Friends at an RIFC soccer game.  Tickets are $13 and will include a special section for Sowams to sit together as well as an opportunity for students to get on the field after the game to take penalty kicks.  The game is scheduled for 4 pm on Sunday, October 13th at Beirne Stadium (Smithfield, RI).  You can use this link to purchase your tickets.  In order to make sure you are sitting with other Sowams’ families, you should purchase your tickets by Friday.

  • PTO Directory:  The PTO Directory of families is now available.  Only those families who signed up for inclusion are listed in the directory.  This directory should not be shared with those outside of the school and should not be used for solicitation purposes.  You may email kotsirisc@barringtonschools.org for access to the directory.

  • Flu Shot Clinics:  Barrington Public Schools will host two upcoming flu shot clinics.  There will be one at Sowams on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 3:30-7:00; the other is at Barrington High School on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 4:00-7:30.  These clinics are free regardless of your insurance status.  To sign up and for more information, click here.

  • No School:  Just a reminder, there is no school on Monday, October 14, 2024.

  • Vision Screenings:  October 23, 2024, our school will be having students take part in a vision screening.  This is one of the state required screenings we do each year.  It is important that students bring their glasses to school on this day.  Questions about the screening can be directed to Mrs. Mungovan, our school nurse teacher, at mungovans@barringtonschools.org.

  • Community Notice:  Primrose Hill School has their Spooky Stroll coming up.  Information may be found here.

Have a great day.

Best,

Jim Callahan

Principal
