Good morning,
Don’t forget…Open House is tonight. Kindergarten and first grade parents/guardians are welcome to join us at 6:00; grades two and three parents/guardians will meet at 7:00. This evening is for the adults so you can hear about your child’s day at Sowams. You will be able to head to the classroom five minutes before the start time.
Thank you to everyone who reached out to us with all of the congratulations for our National Blue Ribbon recognition. It means so much to have the support of our Sowams community.
More Backpack Express information is below:
First Grade PTO/Arts Alive Play: Arts Alive for our first grade students will begin Wednesday, October 2 from 2:30-4:00 in the Sowams multipurpose room. Please sign up below to volunteer and thank you in advance for your help!

Sowams Speedway: We are looking for volunteers to assist students on Speedway days. Speedway is our mileage club and happens twice a week–Mondays and Wednesdays. If you would like to volunteer, here’s the link to sign up.
PTO Information: There are a couple bits of information from our PTO for you:
PTO Directory: Our PTO puts together a directory for anyone who wants to share their contact information with parents. The list is only shared with Sowams families. To have your contact information put in the Directory, click here to fill out the form. Once the Directory is complete, a link will be shared so you will have access to the information.
Sowams Family Night at RIFC: Join your Sowams Family and Friends at an RIFC soccer game. Tickets are $13 and will include a special section for Sowams to sit together as well as an opportunity for students to get on the field after the game to take penalty kicks. The game is scheduled for 4 pm on Saturday, October 13th at Beirne Stadium (Smithfield, RI). You can use this link to purchase your tickets.
Dismissal and Bikes: It’s important that parents/grandparents/babysitters/guardians watch their children on bikes. There are students riding their bikes in the school’s parking lot without an adult with them. This is dangerous at dismissal with all of the vehicles exiting at the end of the day.
Flu Shot Clinics: Barrington Public Schools hosts two upcoming flu shot clinics. There will be one at Sowams on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 3:30-7:00; the other is at Barrington High School on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 4:00-7:30. These clinics are free regardless of your insurance status. To sign up and for more information, click here.
Picture Day: Our school picture day is tomorrow, September 26, 2024. Information packs were sent home but you may also order picture packages online at coffeepond.com. All children will have their pictures taken even if you are not purchasing a package. We do this to ensure all students are in our school’s yearbook.
Community Notices: The Barrington Education Foundation has their upcoming Rubber Ducky Race. Information may be found here. Also, BYBA has information about their upcoming leagues, which may be found here.
Best,
Jim Callahan
Principal
