Dear BPS Community,
It is with great pleasure that I share the news that Sowams School has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, one of just three schools in Rhode Island to receive this honor. This prestigious award celebrates Sowams School’s excellence in academic performance and student achievement as one of the top-performing schools in the nation.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Principal Jim Callahan and the entire Sowams community for this outstanding achievement. Sowams School is committed to fostering a supportive and academically rigorous learning environment where every student can thrive. Sowams’s recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School is a testament to that commitment and the hard work and dedication of our Sowams students, educators, staff, and families, who put forth their best effort every day.
This is, of course, a proud moment for Sowams School, but it is also a proud moment for our entire district, as Sowams becomes another BPS school to receive the National Blue Ribbon Schools distinction. Principal Callahan will be formally presented with the award in Washington, D.C., in November, and we are excited to celebrate this accomplishment together as a community later this month.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our schools, our staff, and our students. Incredible teaching and learning happens in schools and classrooms across Barrington Public Schools every day, and it is phenomenal to see that work recognized on a national level.
Sincerely,
Rob Wargo
