Sowams School

Good afternoon,

With today being 9/11, we honored our Barrington police and firefighters at our school through the High Five for Heroes initiative.  Our local heroes walked through our school and received high fives and thanks from all of us at Sowams.  Thank you to our Barrington police officers and firefighters for all they do to keep all of us safe.

• Open House:  Our annual Open House is coming up on September 25, 2024.  This is an evening for parents/guardians to visit your child’s classroom and hear from their teacher about what happens each day at school.  The times of the visit are as follows:

  • Kindergarten and Grade 1:  6:00-6:45

  • Grades 2 and 3:  7:00-7:45

• Picture Day:  Our school picture day is coming up on September 26, 2024.  Information packs will be sent home when we receive them but you may also order picture packages online at coffeepond.com.  All children will have their pictures taken even if you are not purchasing a package.  We do this to ensure all students are in our school’s yearbook.

• First Grade Arts Alive/PTO Play:  There are spots still available.  Registration is now open for first grade students interested in participating in the Arts Alive/PTO play.  More information about this may be found here.

• PTO Apple Picking:  The PTO is sponsoring a morning of apple picking on September 29.  More information about this may be found here.  

• School Improvement Team/Special Education Committee:  We are looking for volunteers to serve on two school committees.  If you are interested in serving on either, please complete this form by September 15, 2024.  

• OCTOBERFEST: Our PTO’s biggest and only fundraiser and community event is coming up on October 19, 2024.  This is a fun family day with lots of games, bouncy houses, raffles, silent auctions, food, hayride, etc.  Here’s this week’s Ocrtoberfest updates:  

  • Subcommittee Chairs still needed for Decorations, Class Games, and Arts & Crafts

  • Sponsorships - The sponsorship team is seeking the help of the Sowams community in raising funds for Octoberfest 

    • Families who would like to sponsor or donate an item to the online auction, please review the letter linked here 

    • If you own, work for, or have connections to a local business who may be interested in sponsoring or donating to the online auction, please feel free to share this sponsorship document linked here, or email sowamsoctoberfest@gmail.com to let us know

• Yearbook Pictures:  As the year goes on, you may be at a Sowams School/PTO event where you are taking pictures.  If so, we would love you to share these Sowams pictures for potential use in the yearbook.  You may email the pictures to sowamsyearbook2023@gmail.com.  The pictures should be of only Sowams students at a Sowams event.
