Backpack Express

Good Afternoon,

We had a wonderful first day of the school year. Most students arrived on time and were ready to go. Arrival and dismissal today were very smooth. There were only a few with tears at drop off…a few parents.

Your child has a folder in their backpack with important information for you to read.  Some of this information needs to be completed and returned to school.  Please send this back as soon as possible. The folder becomes a “home-to-school” folder for communication and should go back and forth each day with your child.  Any notes or information you want the school to receive should be placed in this folder and teachers will do the same.  This folder should be checked nightly.

Faculty and staff spent the day introducing routines and rituals both in the classroom and around the school.  Children got to meet their classmates and experience a typical schedule for their grade level.

Tomorrow all students will come in through the main doors at Sowams School, starting at 7:30.  (School starts at 7:55.)  Please follow the drop off procedures for the morning.  Don’t forget to remind your child to order hot lunch if they need it.

Thank you to everyone who sent a note today indicating how your child is getting home.  If you have not done so yet, please send a note regarding dismissal for your child.

There are also a couple notices for you to read through:

  • Arts Alive/PTO Play for Grade 1:  First graders have an opportunity to become actors with the Arts Alive/PTO play.  This year, the cast will work on a small production of Mermaids and Pirates.  Information about the play and registration may be found here.

  • BYBA Newsletter:  This community notice has information from this local basketball association.

  • Barrington Education Foundation (BEF):  The BEF has an upcoming fundraiser called the Rubber Ducky Race.  You may find out information about it here.  The BEF is a great support of our schools.

We are looking forward to seeing the children tomorrow.

Have a great night.

Best,

Jim Callahan
