Vacation Week: Next week, our school and district will be on our winter break. School is closed the week of February 19, 2024. School starts up again on February 26, 2024.
Second and Third Grade Play: PTO and Arts Alive will be offering our yearly play for second and third graders. Registration for the play opens on March 5, 2024, at 6:00 in the evening. Once rehearsals start, students will participate on either Monday or Wednesday. Much more information may be found on this information sheet from Arts Alive.
Morning Drop Off: I know this is not the first time you have seen information in our Backpack Express about morning drop off. The morning drop off routine may be found here. One family not following this routine can hold up traffic in our driveway and on Sowams Rd. One other note: Please let vehicles turn out of our parking lot onto Sowams Rd. This will also help alleviate back ups onto Sowams Rd.
Welcome to New Teacher: Upon our return from vacation, Tracy Popp will be joining us at Sowams as our new special education teacher.
Kids Heart Challenge: Once again, Sowams School is participating in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (formally Jump Rope for Heart). Students will participate in this program during their PE/Health classes. More information may be found here. School-Wide Community Service Project: From now through March 8, 2024, Sowams School is collecting various items for the Izzy Foundation located at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. We are collecting craft items, new games, new puzzles, and travel-sized hygiene products. There is a box in the foyer of our school for donated items. Kindergarten Registration: Do you have a child or know a Barrington child who will be five years old by September 1, 2024? If so, the child may register for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. Registration is now open for next year’s kindergarten. PTO at URI Basketball Game: Sowams PTO is sponsoring a family fun afternoon at a men’s URI basketball game on March 2. Tickets are now on sale with a special price. All of the information may be found here.
