Good afternoon,
Here’s this week’s Backpack Express, filled with a lot of information.
Winter Gear: With the winter months coming up, if you need help getting any type of winter gear for your children–coats, hats, gloves/mittens–please feel free to reach out to our social worker, Michele Marcello at 401.247.3180 or via email at marcellom@barringtonschools.org.
Lantern Walk: On December 20 at 6:00 in the evening, the PTO is sponsoring a Solstice Lantern Walk to welcome winter. Information about the Walk may be found here. Volunteers are needed to assist with setting up before and cleaning up after the walk and to assist with the hot chocolate. Volunteers may sign up here.
Card Making: Barrington High School’s Chain Reaction Club is inviting the Barrington community to a card-making event for the residents of Atria. This is taking place on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 at our high school. Information may be found here.
Lost and Found: Feel free to check out the lost and found in the school’s foyer. There are jackets and sweatshirts along with water bottles, hats, and gloves. You can also remind your child to take a look, too.
Recess: Throughout the winter, we do continue to have outdoor recess each day. The only days we do not go outside for recess are days where it is bitterly cold or raining. It’s important that children are dressed appropriately to be outside.
Morning Drop Off: In order to ensure drop off goes smoothly each morning, it’s important that everyone follows the procedure we set up for dropping off students. It is designed for the safety of our students and getting you quickly in and out of the driveway so you can be where you need to be on time. You can access this information here.
Vacation Week: We have full days of school right through December 22, 2023. There is no school from December 25, 2023, through January 1, 2024. We return to school on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The school calendar may be found here.
Ugly Sweater Day: Let’s make our last day of school for 2023 a fun day. December 22, 2023, will be Ugly Sweater Day at Sowams. Faculty, staff, and students should wear their ugliest sweater, sweatshirt, or shirt to school on this day. It can be holiday themed or just something ugly.
Have a wonderful evening.
Best,
Jim Callahan
Principal
