Tap In Food Drive: Each year, many local residents experience food insecurity especially around the holidays. Tap In is a wonderful local resource for families in order to assist in getting food. As a school, we will be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive during the week of October 23, 2023. We will accept the following food items: stuffing, instant potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, brownie and cookie mix. There is a box in the school’s foyer for donations.
Building Committee Community Meetings: The Barrington School Building Committee is hosting a series of community meetings in preparation for Stage II of its Necessity of School Construction application. Each meeting will include a short presentation from Tecton Architects and a community discussion.Attending a community meeting is an opportunity for you to learn about the future of school construction projects in Barrington that address space and security deficits, Barrington's growing population, and the needs of twenty-first century learning. Community meetings will take place on:
Saturday, October 21 at Barrington Middle School (9:00-11:00 AM)
Wednesday, October 25 at Barrington Middle School (6:00-8:00 PM)
Information about the project may be found on the Official Building Project Website.
Halloween: As Halloween approaches, I want to remind everyone that we do not distribute food items to our students. This includes candy. Please do not send in candy for classes on Halloween. Any candy sent in will be sent back home with your child.
Community Notices: There are a couple community notices for you: Primrose Hill School’s Spooky Stroll and Barrington Youth Basketball Association.
On behalf of the Sowams Faculty and Staff, I would like to thank everyone involved in Octoberfest. The day was a huge success because we had so many volunteers, donations, and support, as well as nice weather and a Sowams and Barrington community who showed up for a fun, family time. A BIG thank you to Shannon Sullivan and Shae Goodhue for running Octoberfest.
Best,
Jim Callahan
