Picture Day: Just a reminder, tomorrow is Picture Day at Sowams. All children will have their picture taken so all children can be in the yearbook. If you would like to purchase pictures, you may do so online by clicking here.
Flu Shot Clinic: There are two upcoming flu shot clinics in Barrington: October 17 at Sowams and November 2 at Barrington High School. Both of these clinics are open to anyone who would like to get a flu shot. You do need to preregister to attend. Registration information may be found here or at schoolflu.com.
Vision Screenings: We are required by the state to do a yearly vision screen with all students. Our screening will take place on Friday, October 6 during the school day. If your child wears glasses, it is important that they have them with them on this day. If you have any questions, you may reach out to our school nurse-teacher, Mrs. Mungovan at mungovans@barringtonschools.org or by calling the school at 401-247-3180.

PTO Information: There are several things for you from our Sowams PTO:
PTO Meeting: The next PTO meeting is October 2, 2023, at 7:00 in the evening. This is a virtual meeting. The link to the meeting will be sent out Monday.

School Directory: It’s not too late to sign your family up to be in the Sowams PTO Directory. If you have not signed up but would like to be included, you may register for this here.
Octoberfest: There is a lot of information for you regarding our PTO’s upcoming Octoberfest. Because there is so much, I will share it all in a separate email. Please take the time to read the information. Oktoberfest is October 14, 2023. This is a rain or shine family and community event. It is our largest and typically only fundraiser we have at our school. Your support is greatly appreciated.
DEIB: There are various celebrations and recognitions during the month of October. The district’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging committee has created a monthly slideshow to highlight the celebrations and recognitions. You may access it here.
Building Committee Community Meetings: The Barrington School Building Committee is hosting a series of community meetings in preparation for Stage II of its Necessity of School Construction application. Each meeting will include a short presentation from Tecton Architects and a community discussion.Attending a community meeting is an opportunity for you to learn about the future of school construction projects in Barrington that address space and security deficits, Barrington's growing population, and the needs of twenty-first century learning. Community meetings will take place on:
Thursday, October 5 at Barrington Middle School (6:00-8:00 PM)
Saturday, October 21 at Barrington Middle School (9:00-11:00 AM)
Wednesday, October 25 at Barrington Middle School (6:00-8:00 PM)
